How to Change Themes in Blogger

How does your blog stand out compared to your competitor's?

One way to ensure your blog stands out from others is by customizing the theme. In 2023 no one wants to visit blog-era websites that are hard to read and navigate so today, I will show you how to change your theme and layout in Blogger.

The left-hand sidebar with the theme tab highlighted

Upon opening Blogger select the Blog you which to edit. From the side bar on the left-hand side select "Theme".

Page displaying blog themes

Once theme is selected, you'll be presented with a page of themes to select from. For this example I used "Simple Blog".

Selected blog theme
Select the theme and click "Apply". The theme will be added to your blog which you may preview by clicking the "View Blog" button on the left-hand side bar. If unsatisfied with the default layout of the blog you may customize before applying.

Theme customization canvas
When customizing you will be presented with this canvas where you may rearrange gadgets.

Theme customization side bar with the Layout accordion extended.

On the left-hand side there is a side bar where you can change aspects of the blog such as the background, width margins, and the layout of the pillars and columns.

Once you've customized your theme to your liking, save it.

Blogger home side bar with "Layout" highlighted.

From the side bar select "Layout". Layout allows us to change the layout of our blog page (meaning the order of information presented to the viewer) and add or remove "gadgets". Gadgets can be added to provide various data and content to the blog such as: images, ads, and HTML scripts.
At the top of the layout page there is a prompt that suggests the "Theme Designer". The theme designer allows for deeper theme customization.
"Layout" canvas window

In the center of the theme designer you'll see a canvas with gadgets that make up the home page of your website. Once customized, save and preview the changes.

Finalized blog with theme change

With these simple steps, we've taken a bland site and added flare, helping it stand out from the rest.

A blank page presents infinite possibilities, here at Your Blogger's Favorite Blog we want to help you be the best creative you can be. For more assistance on this topic check out Google's documentation for Blogger.
