How to Get the Search Engine Bot to Favor Your Blog

 How do we please the all-knowing eye that is the search engine bot? 

By serving it, it's favorite meal, data! There are a few ways to aid our blogs ranking in the search results, these tips and tricks are essential to ensuring consumers are able to find your site compared to the millions of similar ones.

First we want to make sure our blog is visible to the search engine in the first place.

To do so, we need to select the settings tab from the left-hand side bar on the blogger home page.

With the settings tab selected, scroll to the 'Privacy' row and check the "Visible to search engines" button. 

Search engines scour your site for information that relates to what its user are looking for. So it is beneficial to add keywords throughout your post which describe the contents of the post. A way to ensure information stands out is by adding headers and titles. 

In a post, type your header then highlight it and observe the toolbar at the top of the page.

From this toolbar, select the 'Normal' drop down arrow and choose a header that fits your post. Ideally headers have keywords to help the search engine bot find your post. 

For images, alt text can be added to aid the search engine bot in finding images from your website. 

When a picture is selected, a small toolbar will appear underneath. On the far right of the toolbar is the settings button.

Once the button is pressed a popup menu will appear with a prompt asking for alt text and a title. The title is a short description of the image and the alt text is a longer descriptor.
